Michael is a junior at the University of Arkansas and a student in the Lightbearers Discipleship Program. That means that he has committed to taking part in the four components of Lightbearers discipleship: the Lightbearers Institute, community living, mentoring and overseas travel.

For Michael, this begins on Monday nights when he attends a New Testament Survey class. Last semester, he took a class on the Old Testament, and next year he'll take classes on Systematic Theology and Applied Theology. We want to make sure that he knows the Word of God and won't be swayed here and there by every passing fancy of the world.

Tuesday nights, he shares a meal with the two guys he lives with. They may talk about the previous night's teaching and memorize Scripture together. They may spend time simply being authentic about their individual struggles. They sharpen one another and allow their faith to impact the way they live together.

Michael is not just with people like him, though. He meets with a mentor each Wednesday to study Scripture and to be challenged by an older believer. This mentor might spend a week celebrating Michael's answered prayer or victory over sin and then the next week might exhort him to action in an area of character. He might also check in on the status of Michael's spiritual and physical preparation for the 10/40 Window trip Michael will take with his house. It's a two-week trip that students take as house groups in order to have their eyes opened to the work of the Body of Christ around the globe.

It's a full week, but a blessed week. We pour a lot into our students because they have great need to "have a true knowledge of God's mystery, that is Christ Himself" (Colossians 2:3), and because now and for the rest of their lives, they'll be pouring out into their local churches.
